The LDMF Foundation announces a research project on going, “ Study of “perceptions”, "misperceptions" and blind spots in scientific research, in the scientific community and in applications of the research results, along the history of science. Development of Solutions”.

The project has been presented at the ResearchGate Network, (and several publications), questions and forum dialogue has started.

FIELD:

Philosophy of science, scientific method, risk management, emotional intelligence, perception, strategic management, history of science peer review, prediction.

GOAL:

Study of “perceptions", "misperceptions" and blind spots, in scientific research, in the scientific community and in applications of the research results, along the history of science, that have created a damaging or destructive impact for individuals, organizations, governments, cultures or civilizations.

As well of those events that damaged the image of science and the "trust" the scientific community and not scientists have in the scientific research.

REFERENCES:

The researcher, has provided services as consultant, coach and trainer since 1999, and is dedicated to the study of ICT since 1983, and of science and its history since 1993. Since 1997 is dedicated to the practice of futurism, applied to science and technology innovation, and to know how advancements in the fields of leadership, strategic management and governance that have an impact in the development of a global culture and civilization in peace.

Social science as well as natural science have a not so long history. History has been registered.

There are many cases in the history of science, in which the scientific community did engaged into an agreement and based on it developed applications out of scientific research results. Later, history will proof that the results were not complete, not accurate, wrong, or did lack of foundation or had “blind spots, misperceptions or perceptions used incorrectly”.

The advancement of scientific research and innovation in technology, experiences an exponential curve.

The idea of a singularity to be reached, as a predicted outcome, make us aware of the need of accuracy in the art of prediction and risk management.

For that reason the legacy created by misperceptions, blind spots, or lack of correctness in the scientific research, there for in the application of scientific research results, will create an impact with an exponential force that may create a damage of an not predicted dimension, unless risk management.

The experience of error, discovered late in time, give us the impression that science have been acting based on belief without knowing.

This particular fragile condition of the stability of the scientific research reality "has been becoming apparently more stable every 10 years", while, it is the intent of this research to find out if this perception is true.

The Practice of Belief in Science

When the scientific community engage into an agreement regarding the results of a research, and, later on, these results proof to be not-correct, we could tell that along all that period of time of application education and scientific agreement with a blind spot, the scientific community did engage into belief, it did believe in the correctness of a result, or correctness of how a perception have been applied.

From a futurist point of view, in 9000 years, the current knowledge of science may look like a proto-science , and eventually, in this context, based on belief.

While at our current time, we can not project that idea or perception, onto colleagues that are working at the edge of scientific research and innovation technology.

This research project intent to find alternatives pathways and know more about, collect data and create alternatives for prediction as well as for adjustments or solution making.

CASE Study Example:

One example that inspired the researcher to engage into this project is the following one:

How often medicine has dangerous side effects for women, for the simple reason that trials have not been done on women, with the good intention to protect them. A very important details has been misperceived with this decision made by "the scientific community" in general. DNA in men and women is different and is also present in every cell. As well following cases are examples:

The belief that the earth is flat.

The perception model of circular/elliptic orbit around the sun.

The perception model of atoms, electrons that follow a circular/patterns around the centre.

The idea that DNA can not be changed along one life time.

The idea that emotions are use-less for objective matters.

The idea that asbestos is not toxic.

The researcher is certain there are a lot more cases to find in the history of science and of innovation technology, and their study will serve future generations ability of prediction and risk management.

RESEARCH TASKS Examples

Trace known and unknown cases in which the scientific community did agree on the validity of the results of a research, and based in it developed applications that later one will proof to dont be accurate, correct or even create a destructive/degenerative/damaging impact in individuals, relationships, organizations, culture, market, governments, civilizations or human species survival.

Design solutions in the fields of preventive intervention, prediction, assessment, peer review models, self-management, self-control, that will reduce the chances of those events to take place, or at least reduce their impact. (REF: e-book: “The 9 Families, The Primordial Art of Risk Management”)

RESEARCH TASKS Examples:

Identify "perception patterns” and blind spots generators that induced those research results, and the blinded application for several years or seasons.

Review of the agreements, laws and control instruments that made it impossible for the scientific community to predict the outcomes or identify the legacy of error or misperception.

Find the variety and sequence of events, processes, which made it possible for the scientific community to find or notice the impact created by applications and that the research results were wrong or not correct.

Make notice of the instruments and process utilized to adjust or correct the issue and the length of time, investment necessary, and collateral damage created by it.

Trace the legacy created by "Culture generation engines" which induced the perceptions and agreements reason of the results (object of this study) on the scientific research and its applications.

Evaluate cultural deficiencies, that influence the scientific community make steps and develop tendencies towards those kind of research outcomes and outcomes of its application.

Identify and design the "culture generation engine" that is able to predict and prevent those events to take place.

Design self-management tools, self-control tools, assessment tools, that may help scientist predict and identify these type of events.

Design a gamified training program dedicated to assist researchers in the fields of perception, matrix thinking, thinking and doing out of the box, emotional intelligence, emotional self-management, that would help them enhance their ability of prediction, strategic management and risk management; and reduce the impact created by such potential outcomes of research and their application.

Review the "peer review" model of collaboration and suggests protocols and guidelines, to be followed by the scientific community, in order to reduce and become able to correct, such kind of events in the history of science.

THEORY

There can be always found a legacy, in terms of "perception" and patterns for decision making, that are carried generation after generation.

When the blind spot becomes a legacy, the results are not avoidable.

It is possible to identify the "culture/perception generation engine" that created that legacy (perception, agreement, emotional approach to particular topics of experiences) and implement an adjustment through the design of another "culture/perception generation engine".
